7th graders read The Lorax to friends at the Oglethorpe County Senior Center this week. Great conversations were shared about summer plans and pets. Students enjoyed lunch at Blazers. Thanks to Ms. Atao for providing these opportunities for our OCMS students!

This past week, some 6th graders from Mrs. Atao's class took a trip to the Oglethorpe Public Library to read The Lorax by Dr. Seuss to some younger readers. The little ones were wonderful and reminded students of Brown Bar-ba-loots. For lunch, the 6th graders feasted at Blazer’s.

The OCMS Yearbook Staff dedicated & distributed our 2025-2026 yearbook to Ms. Beverley Levine, our beloved former OCMS Principal & retiring superintendent Friday morning. Once again, we have a yearbook full of the countless memories & activities of the year! Kudos to Mrs. Allgood, Mrs. Collins, Ms. Queen, & the yearbook staff on another fantastic yearbook!
We also had a great time cheering on this year’s Class of 2026 graduates on their final Legacy Walk through the halls of OCMS!

So proud of the OCMS students that were honored Tuesday at each grade level OCMS Student Recognition Ceremony & proud of the student body that was so well behaved at each ceremony. Almost 700 awards were handed out for various achievements throughout the year. Thanks to the Kettle Creek Chapter NSDAR and to the Oglethorpe County Retired Educators Association for sponsoring our major 8th grade awards by recognizing Molly Graham, Calvin Hgay, Emma Satterfield, & OCMS Teacher of the Year, Kristin Byce.
Apologies for not getting more pictures throughout the day. Feel free to post your own pictures of your child & their awards in the Facebook comments.

Our 8th grade Food, Nutrition, and Wellness classes put their newly learned knife skills to work during a fun food science pickling experiment! 🥒🔬 Each group created their own unique pickle flavors — everything from Kool-Aid pickles and “vampire repellent” garlic pickles to classic dill and spicy varieties. Students explored the science behind pickling while practicing safe cutting techniques and teamwork in the kitchen. Of course, the best part was the follow-up taste test! The creativity (and bravery!) of our students made this experiment a huge success!

The 2026 8th Grade After Party is in the books. What a great crew to spend a Friday night with. This year brought the debut installment of an inflatable relay to After Party events. It was also interesting to hear songs of Pearl Jam & Keith Whitley chosen during the karaoke portion of the night. This group proves there is hope for the future. Only two more weeks of middle school for these guys!

Our ELL classes recently celebrated International Food Day in a truly meaningful (and delicious!) way. Each student prepared and brought a dish representing their home country, creating a vibrant showcase of culture and tradition. The variety of dishes shared made it a truly special experience for everyone involved.
A heartfelt thank you to the parents for your support in helping provide these special dishes. Your contributions made this experience even more memorable for our students!
