Oglethorpe County Schools will operate on a 2 hour delay on Tuesday, February 3. Thank you to our roads department who have been working diligently to get roads treated and prepared, and to our local Emergency Management Agency for their support and guidance.
As always, families should use their best judgment regarding roads in your area. Please be patient with our bus drivers as they navigate the routes 2 hours later in the morning.
Students may begin being dropped off at 9:30 am. Please do not drop off students any earlier as the schools will not be open. Buses will pick up 2 hours later than the usual pick up time.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support as we work to keep our students and staff safe.

All Oglethorpe County Schools and offices will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 2nd.
The safety of our students, staff, and families is our top priority. While some main roads are clear, many back roads remain unsafe, and refreezing conditions are expected overnight.
Stay warm and safe!

7th/ 8th graders have fun on Fridays playing chess at lunch! Thanks to Mr. Robert's for facilitating our Chess Club!

Oglethorpe County Schools will operate on a regular schedule tomorrow. Thank you to all those who played a part in keeping us safe and warm during the ice storm. Looking forward to having everyone back in our buildings tomorrow.
Although road conditions continue to improve and the main roads look good, there are still too many back roads and dirt roads that remain too icy for our buses to safely transport students. Therefore, Oglethorpe County Schools will be closed for students on Tuesday, January 27.
Teachers and paraprofessionals will observe a workday from home. All staff should watch for an email with more information.

This past weekend, two of our band students got to experience the GMEA District 14 Honor Band. Benji and Lizzie got to work with top band clinicians and learn an entire concert with about 7 hours of rehearsal. They represented OCMS well!

8th grade basketball players & cheerleaders were recognized at their last home game this past Thursday.
Check Facebook for more pictures.

Out of an abundance of caution, Oglethorpe County Schools, offices, and the Patriot Health Hub will all be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026, due to the forecasted winter storm that will impact our community. All extracurricular activities through Monday night have been cancelled. Stay safe and warm!

Today is Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and Oglethorpe County School System greatly appreciates our School Resource Officers and the Oglethorpe County Sheriff’s Department.
Thank you to all the agencies who assisted in locating and bringing the missing juvenile back safely.

Congratulations to these 2nd quarter Patriot Reward Card drawing winners! OCMS students earn a PRC Card after each quarter based on parameters related to grades & behavior. All students who receive a PRC card are eligible for the drawings at the end of the quarter.

OCMS enjoyed another great end-of-quarter recital from Mrs. Serrian’s 6th & 7th Grade Ukulele classes Wednesday afternoon!
See more pics on Facebook.

7th graders spread holiday cheer at the Oglethorpe County Senior Center. Students read highlights of the story the Nutcracker in the role of characters. They also distributed sugar cookies and handmade beaded ornaments. Quality conversations were ignited as students interviewed seniors to complete tic-tac-toe cards connected to the Nutcracker story.
Supplies were made possible by a $250 Thivent grant that encourages us to Live Generously. A special Thank You goes to Lynn Faust for securing the grant for Ms. Atao’s classes.

Thumbs up to Ms. Serrian and her 6th Grade, 7th Grade, 8th Grade, & Jazz Bands on an awesome Winter Band Concert Tuesday night! See the Facebook post for concert pics!

The OCMS Academic Bowl team participated in the PAGE Academic Bowl Regional Competition at Commerce High School on Saturday, December 6. They fought hard for 3rd place. Coaches Penny Miller and Chad Galloway are incredibly proud of the team.

The OCMS Robotics Team went to Jefferson this weekend to participate in the First Lego League Robotics Regional Tournament. The all 6th grade team consisting of Lucas Jones, Daniel Utley, Carson Wilson, Mason Seabolt and Asa Brooks were complimented on their great sportsmanship and teamwork. The team ended up in 7th place overall on the day. Congratulate them for a job well done.

6th grade students were the guest presenters at the Oglethorpe County Public Library. For toddler story time, our students shared the tale of the Nutcracker. Dressed for the part, each student summarized their character’s role in the story. Students also distributed handmade holiday necklaces and enjoyed coloring along with the toddlers. It was a magical adventure!
Thanks to Mrs Atao for providing this opportunity to our students!!!

OCMS celebrated five amazing REACH Scholars at our signing ceremony last week:
Silas Judson
Nevaeh Perry
Elizabeth Randolph
Eh Way
Haleigh York
Congratulations to these 8th grade students who were selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship when they graduate from high school.
These five eighth-grade students are on track to be awarded academic scholarships through REACH Georgia (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen), a needs-based mentoring and scholarship program providing students a framework of educational and financial support to aid their successful journey through high school and beyond. They were selected through an extensive process, including an application, an essay component, and a panel interview with community and business partners.
Students must maintain good grades, behavior, and attendance. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for these outstanding students.
Each REACH Scholar is assigned an academic counselor and a mentor who will guide them through the remainder of their 8th grade year and high school.
If you would like to serve as a REACH mentor, please reach out to Annie Murphy at amurphy@oglethorpe.k12.ga.us
CONGRATULATIONS to each of these students and their families!

A HUGE thank you to Coach Slover and his brother from Slover Law Firm for donating and distributing 52 turkeys — complete with all the fixings — to families in our school system to enjoy this Thanksgiving! Your generosity is a true blessing to so many!

Our wrestlers did great Wednesday night vs. Elbert & Morgan Counties!
We've got home basketball Thursday night vs. George Walton. The girls tip off at 4:30 followed by the boys. Come out & support our OCMS Patriots!
