OCMS enjoyed one more great end-of-quarter recital from Mrs. Serrian’s 6th & 7th Grade Ukulele classes Tuesday afternoon!

Our Food, Nutrition & Wellness classes at OCMS wrapped up the year with a grilling challenge. Students got to put their knowledge of meats, fruit, vegetables, marinades, knife skills, and more to use as they prepped and cooked Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs. Thanks for a great year in FNW!

The OCMS Yearbook Staff dedicated & distributed our 2024-2025 yearbook to Mrs. Lori Thornton, our beloved 8th grade hall custodian retiring this year Tuesday morning. Once again, we have a yearbook full of the countless memories & activities of the year! Kudos to Mrs. Allgood, Mrs. Collins, Ms. Queen, & the yearbook staff on another fantastic yearbook!

Congratulations to these 4th quarter Patriot Reward Card drawing winners! OCMS students earn a PRC Card after each quarter based on parameters related to grades & behavior. All students who receive a PRC card are eligible for the drawings at the end of each quarter.
Thanks to Mrs. Barnes for coordinating rewards each quarter this year!

The OCMS FCCLA officer team finished out the 2024-2025 school year with a Paint Party afternoon. Thanks to these kiddos for all the hard work they have put in behind the scenes!

Camp Green Lake (OCMS Room 606 Edition)
Ms. E. Moncrief's class had campers trading in their books for new uniforms, earning camp nicknames, & digging tiny holes with mini shovels. They wrapped up a favorite unit with some deep digs comparing and contrasting Louis Sachar's Holes novel and movie. Great discussions, even better memories made!
Thanks to Ms. E Moncrief for a great room transformation!

OCMS was happy to welcome our upcoming 6th graders today! We’re also super proud of our 8th grade tour guides that did a great job of giving tours, answering questions, & fostering in the newbies.

Greetings OCMS Parents,
The newest TikTok trend sweeping the nation challenges kids to short out their school devices by sticking pieces of metal in various ports to short them out & possibly cause a fire. Please have a talk with your student that this will cost them $300+ to replace the device, will result in school consequences, & can result in law enforcement being involved should it cause a school disruption. Thanks for your help with this. Only 12 more days of school!!!

We appreciate our school nurses today and every day and the part they play in academic success! Thank you!!!
HISTORY OF SCHOOL NURSE DAY
On October 1, 1902, the first school nurse, Linda Richards, was employed to prevent absenteeism by consulting with kids and families regarding healthcare requirements related to infectious diseases.
She led the adoption of evidence-based nursing practice across the city after a month of effective nursing operations in New York City schools. Since then, school nurses have continued to control infectious diseases, but their function has grown and become more diverse.
The health of a student is inextricably linked to their ability to learn. Unaddressed health care needs make it difficult for children to participate in the learning system. The school nurse helps students succeed by providing healthcare to all students in the school context through examination, treatment, and follow-up. The school nurse helps children with their physical, psychological, emotional, and social health requirements as well as their academic success.
According to the National Survey of Children with Special Healthcare Needs, 11.2 million children in the United States are at risk of developing persistent physical, cognitive, social, or emotional problems. These students may require school-based health assistance, which school nurses can provide.
National School Nurse Day has been observed since 1972 to honor school nurses. National School Nurse Day was created to raise awareness about the importance of school nurses in the educational setting.

OCMS is proud of students that were honored Tuesday at each grade level OCMS Student Recognition Ceremony. Almost 700+ awards were handed out for various achievements throughout the year. Thanks to the Kettle Creek Chapter NSDAR and to the Oglethorpe County Retired Educators Association for sponsoring our major 8th grade awards by recognizing Eva Lou Miller, Kason Rivera, Nicole Aguilar, & OCMS Teacher of the Year, Jill Barnes. The OCREA also awarded OCMS parapro Madison Phillips with the OCREA T.Y. Harris Teacher Scholarship.
Apologies for not getting more pictures throughout the day. Feel free to post your own pictures of your child & their awards in the comments.

FCCLA members traveled to Funopolis for their end of the year summer social. The event officially wraps up the FCCLA calendar and celebrates all of the hard work and effort of members throughout the 2024-2025 school year.

The 2025 8th Grade After Party is in the books.
What a great crew to spend a Friday night with.
Despite a bit of rain that cut out some of the activities, we never heard a complaint from anyone in the group. And during the relays when a some 8th grade groups are "too cool for school" and have to be begged to participate, these guys were locked in and fully involved! Just zoom in on the smiles and faces in these pictures. There is no doubt they were having fun. Only two and three more weeks of middle school for these guys!

Teacher Appreciation Week is May 5th - 9th. What a great time to recognize the heart and soul of our schools, the educators who inspire, nurture, and guide our students every day. Their dedication goes far beyond the classroom, shaping futures and changing lives.
Let’s take this week to show our gratitude for the patience, passion, and perseverance teachers bring to their work. A simple "thank you" can mean the world, let’s make sure they feel seen and celebrated!
Is there an Oglethorpe educator who has inspired or had a significant impact on you or your child? Let them know by leaving a comment on our social media channels, telling how they impacted you or your child.
